Hey I was wondering if anyone here has had a breast reduction. I am wondering what it is like. (possibly even comparable pain to a hyst or A&P repairs) I do not like pain. The hyst was terrible the A&P repairs even worse. I am thinking that I can get through a BR.
I have an appt on March 2nd with a PS to talk to her about it. I have wanted one for so very long. I am a size double E. I hate them, I have bad headaches, neck pains, back aches and for the last 4 years, yearly yeast infections under the breast, one of which I have right now. They hurt badly and they smell.
I can't exercise like I want cause the literally hurt to have them bounce around. I am scared but want this surgery. Anyone that can share experiences would be great.
Thanks
Kim

I had breast reduction surgery about 10 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did! I was a double D or E normally, but after both pregnancies the grew to mammoth proportions and then, of course, sagged. I was always uncomfortable - with or without a bra.
Plus I was an average size weight, so I always looked out of proportion. I won't kid you, it did hurt, but I had a reaction to the anesthesia and that is part of my recovery was so painful because I kept throwing up afterward.
The recovery, though, was quicker than I expected and, if given the choice again, I would do it in a heartbeat! It was probably the single best health/self-confidence choice I ever made.
My only suggestion - make sure you are very comfortable with your surgeon and have good communication. Don't be afraid to say what you want your outcome to be size-wise because my PS was thinking one thing and I was thinking another and I'm so glad I spoke up and asked questions!

I also had breast reduction about 10 years ago. I was a DD or more. I hated it also, so much pain. It was the best thing I ever did. I also have had a hyst with a&p repairs along with repairs to the bladder! I had complications with the hyst which led to a long recovery. I still feel like I am recovering from that almost a year later. But, back to the reduction I woke up lying flat on my back in the recovery room and it was the first time in years I did not feel like I was suffocating! Well, I went and had 2 more kids in the last two years and I am contemplating having it done again as soon as I get my weight back down. I guess the bottom line is everyone is differant. I actually found the worst part to be when they had to take photos (my face was left out) for the insurance company. I could just picture a bunch of old men sitting there looking at these pictures and thinking they looked fine to them! Best of luck and keep me posted if you don't mind.

LOL...now that was funny. I had complications from my hyst as well as A&P repairs, whihc is probably why I am so scared of having this done. But I just can't deal with it anymore. I obviously am done with kids, so I do not have to worry about that.
I have actually gone twice to have this done and each time something happened. The first time I was approved for 80% to be paid by the insurance company, then a few weeks before my surgery I had to have emergency gall bladder surgery, so I decided to wait on the BR. Then in 2001 I was schedule to have it done on Aug 3rd. I was approved for 90% at that time, then a few weeks before that I foundo ut I had severe life threatening damage to my esphoagas and had to have a Nissen Fundoplication with esophagal (so) repairs, at that time general surgeon was going to do the BR, well since he was also the surgeon who would be preforming the Nissen, we kept the same surgery date and I had that instead. Then 3 months after that I found out I was pregant.
Maybe I was never able to have it done because God knew I would be having another child and knew it would be better to wait. I hope so. Not to say I am not scared.
I would like to start exercising, but my pelvic pain is proventing me from doing anything. I would love to have a tummy tuck, since I have the "baby bulge" and well I even get yeast infections where my belly creases, but I do not think they will find that medically necessary.
I just wish the appointment would hurry up and get here....lol

Marybeth... I was wondering if you breast fed your kids? I was under the influence that it could affect your ability to breast feed, thats one reason why I am waiting. Another reason is I heard that after breast feeding your breasts totally change so thats another reason, but I was wondering if you incountered any problems?

Hi ladies, it's been a long time since you posted about breast reduction and I am curious if you finally got what you wanted. I am scheduled Dec.10, 2007 to go from a 34DDDD to a C. I'm 5'2" and average size, except giant boobs. Can't wait!
