Book Description:

Mary Ingles was twenty-three, married, and pregnant, when Shawnee Indians invaded her peaceful Virginia settlement, killed the men and women, then took her captive. For months, she lived with them, unbroken, until she escaped, and followed a thousand mile trail to freedom--an extraordinary story of a pioneer woman who risked her life to return to her people.

He is the acclaimed author of Long Knife; From Sea to Shining Sea; Panther in the Sky, for which he won the prestigious Western Writers of America Spur Award for best historical novel; The Children of First Man; The Red Heart; Sign-Talker; and Warrior Woman. He lives in the Indiana hill country near Bloomington with his wife, Dark Rain, of the Shawnee Nation, United Remnant Band.

Hi Kate,

I loved this book. I read it years ago and loned it to someone and never got it back, then I ordered it online. I love westerns. Scarlet Plume is one of my favorite too. I read that when I was in my teens. The author is Manfred or something. I'll have to find out for sure. But great book.
