I'm in! I have soooooo many eye shadows that I can't possibly wear every color before it goes bad. I know I have lots that are probably a year or more old.

I sure needed this challenge. I have makeup I can't use hiding in drawers all over my house. It is so hard to throw away something I spent money on even if I can't use it. I'm going to toss it this week as I see it. I should gain lots of drawer space.....lol.

Ready, set, go!

OK, I finally went through and threw away the old make-up. Had things like lipstick colors I didn't like (so why did I keep it around if I knew I'd never wear it???) :headscrat and mostly-used things of foundation & powder that there was no way of getting the last dregs out to use. Now to not buy anything else until something I'm currently using is ready to be tossed (and to toss it as soon as it needs to be instead of waiting around!).

I'm good at clearing out old make up because I worked as a student in a cosmetic company and i still found things to dispose of. Did you know you shouldn't keep mascara longer than three months even idf you hardly ever use it?

This is going to be a hard challenge!!! For some reason I seem to think I need 10 shades of red lipstick, even though I would not wear red lipstick for$100.00. I have received some many make up sets over the years with horrible colors I would never wear, but yet I keep them . I will start tommorow, wish me luck!!!

I am throwing out 3 half empty bottles of foundation, I've finally found the perfect one for me, I don't know why I didn't throw them sooner, since I never planned to use them again  As for mascaras , I don't wear it everyday so full size ones go to waste, I pick up the half or sample size ones when I can so at least if they are still around come 3 months there isn't as much waste. Lipsticks and glosses are my weakness, but in my defence I try to wear them as much as possible, Dior kiss is my favourite at the moment!!

OK, I'm starting today. Doe's perfume count as make up? I have several fragrances that I'm not fond of, but others can use.
Thanks, ladies.

I cleaned out my downstairs closet. I don't really wear make-up too much, but had tons of old nailpolish I threw out. Also looked at all my OTC medicines and got rid of a lot of expired ones. Threw away old sunscreen and just a bunch of STUFF that was crammed in there.

Bought a new plastic 3-drawer storage bin which fits on the bottom of the closet and organized all my soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, brushes; so I can find everything easily.

Now, on to the upstairs closet!

I did it! All my stuff is gone. I even put down new shelf paper in my cabnets and drawers :yay" I took everything to our local womans shelter and they said they would rumage through it and keep what they can use. I have brand new Principle Secret "Reclaim" for ageing skin and emu oil. My next step is to hit the make-up counters for some good quality make-up. I've decided since our skin is the largest cell in our body, I will choose quality over quantity. I'm also going to buy locally made goat milk soaps and body creams. I can hardly wait!

This has been wonderful!! :)

Okay, I started tossing stuff! I threw away 5 tubes of lipsticks, which were colors that I would never ever wear, 3 tubes of sample mascaras that I guess I was saving for a rainy day ;) and a bunch of old dried up eye shadows. I am going to take one more look at what I have left this evening and see if there's anything more to toss.

It felt good to toss it, and what's left actually almost fits in my makeup organizer. :D

Well I threw out those foundations I was keeping even though I didn't like them, I kind of half did this challenge before Christmas when I threw out a heap of nail polish and bits and pieces.
It really does make you feel better to have a tidy makeup case, now I can start wearing stuff I couldn't see for the clutter.

Wow - I just looked at the list of how long you should keep something. I had no idea that mascara was only a 3 monther! YIKES - going to have to get rid of that. I'm sure that is at least 9 months old.

This should be fun. I hardly wear any makeup anymore but have kept it "just in case I may need it". I see alot more room showing up in my bathroom cabinet :woohoo:

Count me in...I read about this challenege, went thru all my make up and threw away...
I dont wear alot of make-up and honestly cant remember the last time I did so I think this was easy for to accept and complete..
I got to looking thru my WAR KIT(lol)..
I threw away lip sticks that I bought at a garage sale, eye-liners that are at least 3 years old and never used, and finally threw away the loose face powder that I have had in the container that was inside a zip-loc bag and a complete mess..
I think before I complete the challenege I will go back and even get the old hair clips and pony tail holders that are under my sink and ditch those as well..
I dont have long hair anymore and never will so why do i need to hang on to em...
This was a great way to get me going and active after my surgery...
THANKS!!!!!!!!

Oh! I'm up for this challenge! I have so much old makeup...eye shadows, lip sticks, foundations that I've accumulated over the years. Why do we hang onto that stuff? I swear there are some I haven't used in years. Tomorrow I am going to CLEAN OUT!

Great challenge!

I signed up for this challenge. The toughest part will be rounding up all of the old stuff because I have makeup in seldom-used purses, and in drawers, bags, bins, etc.

I found some old makeup when doing the closet cleaning challenge. It was over three years old! It's gone now. I'll be going through the various storage places and tossing more out this week.

I wish sample sizes were more readily available. I don't use much makeup so it's a shame to throw away so much unused product. Then again, who wants to run the risk of an icky infection from contaminated makeup? Ewwwwwwwww!

02-06-2006, 07:15 PM
OK, I'm in too! I just took a look through my make-up ! I have no earthly idea why I've kept all those samples, etc that I will never, ever use??? I have tons of eye shadow colors that I'd never wear, just saw a deep purple color that I don't think I've ever worn before, just kept, for some reason. I think this challenge will be interesting for me. I believe I'll try to find a new make-up case to oragnize the good stuff that I actually use and toss all the other stuff that I'm keeping, "just in case I ever want to use it!"......this should be interesting. lol

I have so many make-up items that I don't use, yet I've always been reluctant to throw stuff away because of the money I've spent. I keep thinking that I may want to use any of the items "some day" & they just sit there taking so much space in my drawers. I just want to know if skin care products are also included in this challenge because I have a lot of creams & lotions that I don't use as well! I will start sorting out all the stuff tomorrow & "throwing out" everything I don't use. This challenge should be interesting because it's a week long & gives us enough time to toss old stuff gradually for those that have become somewhat attatched! :( I'm sure we'll come upon items we forgot we even had! :D

Today I sorted through yet another drawer full of old make-up items that I've hardly used & have been occupying space for years.I threw out 4 bottles of foundation which were all wrong for me, wrong shade, wrong texture etc. I've yet to find the perfect one for me & it's so frustrating. 2 old blush compacts also wrong colors for me...one was bright pink & the other frosty mauve! 3 old waterproof mascaras which I use only in summer, all dried out & 5 lipsticks with colors which looked good in the tube but awful on me! I really have a hard time choosing colors & I've only realized recently that I'm not a "warm"skintone, but more on the cool side. I think I may be somewhere in between actually because certain warm colors look good on me & certain cool ones as well & vice versa..some look bad. I'm a brunettte with a medium skintone so I always assumed warm colors were right for me, but I guess I was wrong so here I am throwing away years of wrong choices. I do have a few basic items that are right for me....or else I'd have to go shopping immediately. Feels good to get rid of all that clutter! :D

I activated this challenge a few days ago. Yesterday I went through my drawer and cabinet. I threw out a bunch of old makeup and nail polish. I need to get me something to organize the drawer now and I will be done.

Ok guys, I will try this one too. I have been scrubbing everything, closets and carpets, even the garage before the social worker comes for the homestudy. But I walk in the bathroom and just walk out. I actually found makeup I bought in high school... yes, I graduated in 84. Cross your fingers, I am sure it will be good for me, just not sure how yet.

Done! I got rid of mascara. I have had it since the school year started - I know, longer than three months - but I think I have only worn it twice. I had just bought a new foundation, so the last of the old stuff is in the trash. Old blush and a couple of old eyeshadows are gone. The nailpolish was a little tough. I have - had an entire plastic shoe box full! I have only been doing French manicures on my fingers, so I kept the white and sheer pink. My toes are a different story. That's where I hide my wild side. I kept a BRIGHT pink, a red, an orange, and a purple. The rest is gone. Oh, I kept a bottle of quick dry and a clear. All but one of the lipglosses in my purse are pretty new - that one is gone. I wear lipgloss all the time. I have five in my purse. (That's bad, isn't it?) They are different shades and they are very moisturizing. I went through my creams and lotions, too. Wow! That is where I have really gotten bad. I have five bottles of scented body lotion. They were all good. I have day face cream and heavy-duty night time stuff. I had a tube of hand lotion that was almost gone so I tossed it. I also have a jar of cream for extremely dry skin. I just bought it a few weeks ago and it is almost 1/3 gone! Darn dry skin!

Gosh this feels good! Thanks for the challenge!!

I took this challenge hopeing it will make me get rid of all the unused make up i have held on to forever! Well i managed to throw a whole store bag away!! I couldn't believe i was hangin on to all that! Now i just have a neat small basket with my makeup in it! WHEW!!!

Yay! I got rid of some lipstick, eye shadow, mascara, powder and liquid foundation. I also weeded out some eyeliner pencils and old sponge applicators. Ewwwwww.

I'm going to be more careful now about how long I keep makeup so things don't get so out of control.

This was a good challenge to complete!

I've thrown out so much over the weekend & I'm down to daily essentials that fit into my make-up case! I've thrown out 3 foundations, 4 eyeshadow kits, 2 pressed powder compacts, 3 blushers, 2 mascaras,1 loose powder & 3 lip pencils. All were in shades & textures all wrong for me to begin with. I also threw out 4 nail polishes that were very old. I don't know if skin care products were part of the challenge, but I threw out a lot of those that were wrong for my skin type & were just taking up space. i feel liberated in a funny sort of way & I'm happy to be left with what I really use! :yahooo:

My trash service is going to just love me tomorrow! :)

As I was going through the bathrooms cleaning out the makeup, hair care stuff and all the other misc stuff, I have cleaned out closets and the mudroom! I can't believe the stuff that accumulates over time.

More piles for the kids to take to their residences :woohoo: Needless to say, they are starting to dislike my decluttering days. :)

This concept of less is more has become very liberating and I'm loving it!

Well!!!! I have slowly gone through all the fingernail polishes that I will NEVER wear, thrown out the old stuff, tossed those old mascaras that I kept for no reason, gave some good stuff away and tonight, went through all the various sunscreens, moisturizers, lotions, old perfumes.....etc.....Now, what I really use is all nicely organized and I'm kinda suprised, I really don't use that much stuff every day.....think I just kept everything...now, all boxed and nicely organized! AHHHHH!!!!! It's all done!!!!!

I've tried limiting my "beauty" stuff to a drawer in the bathroom vanity but over the years, my "collection" has suffered from a case of "The Creeping Spread."

Large bottles (like the facial exfoliant, toner, and moisturizer, hair gel stuff--all of which I use daily--plus hairspray which is more occasional now that I've got a hair cut that actually works with my hair) are in the medicine cabinet because they fit upright in there. The rest...it's in the drawer.

The drawer used to be manageable. I could even fit my fold-up hair dryer in there (back in the days when I actually used a hair dryer, LOL).

Now it's just a mish-mash of Stuff and it's driving me crazy. I was going to tackle it this past weekend but got caught up doing other stuff. I figured if I joined this challenge, it would be the nudge I need to make me actually DO this purge.

Oh, and I just remembered the "extra" stuff stashed away with my travel kits. Stuff from long ago, stuff I never used, stuff I haven't even seen in years. If I haven't needed it in all these years, it's probably a safe bet that I don't need to have it taking up real estate in my hall closet. Yes?

Yes!

So onward and foreward. Tonight, my "beauty stuff" purge begins!

I have never, ever thrown anything away!
Don't even ask where I keep it all! LOL! This is going to be a tough one, but I am going to do it. Then I am going to go get a makeover and buy all new stuff, hopefully stuff that I will use. :o

I just became a G3 member this evening and look forward to starting this challenge and others.

This particular challenge comes at the perfect time as I moved into my current place about six months ago and will be moving into my new home in the next couple of months (yeah, the house is finally finished after 8 months of waiting). Due to the moves I have not unpacked a lot of stuff so I know that I can go without a lot of things. My bathroom containers from my last house are out in the garage and will be very easy to toss as I have not been into the containers for nearly five months.

Tomorrow I will start with my current stuff as I have just ordered several items from Mary Kay to replace the items I am getting low on. This weekend I have the house to myself so I will be cleaning out the containers in the garage.

Just recently I have found a women and childrens shelter that I will be donating some stuff to. The make up I will toss as it is old, but the extra lotions, body washes, perfumes, etc. I will donate to the shelter, I am sure they will love to have the items.

It took me 2 days but this challange is complete on my end. I went from 2 full drawers of make up down to about 3/4 of a drawer. Geez how did someone who hardly wears make up get so much junk. This was much needed and fun, thanks GGG!

I actually try to do this every 6 months, but last time I realized I didn't know how old a lot of my makeup was. I knew that I had bought some of it when I was with my ex, so it had to be pretty old. It is out of control again, so this is going to be a great challenge. I'm going to start this morning.

I'm soooooo bad about throwing old stuff away....I hardly ever wear makeup so I forget about half of it! ha ha

I recently purchased bare minerals makeup and just received it today. As soon as I opened everything up, I made sure it was all the right colors and I started to go through all my old stuff and tossing it into a big garbage bag....what a great feeling!

This is an easy one for me! I've only worn makeup for about 4 years. And it's only lip gloss and blush at that.

I had a couple of lip glosses I tossed quite a while ago--bad color. This a.m. I tossed the end of the good color--I had replaced it last week but hadn't tossed the old until I grabbed it accidently.

I am very good at keeping the make-up I actually wear in a portable make-up case that goes with me everywhere, and it's quite organized. BUT at home in the master bathroom is another story so I am going to take this challenge and throw out all the old stuff in there that I don't use.

I have just not taken the time to get rid of it and have a "catch all" drawer that I put all the old make-up in when I refresh my make-up case. So wish me luck! It's not going to be pretty.

03-13-2006, 09:57 PM
Went through it all and really got it down to just the basics. There were so many different products that I ended up buying and never using - colors that weren't quit right, stuff that felt icky on, things that didn't hold up all day...
Now I have my brushes, eyelash curler, mascara, blush, three eyeshadows, concealer and a good lip gloss. :)

03-14-2006, 06:31 AM
I sat in front of my mirror trying out all the different colors I had. If it didn't whoe to my sense of beauty, it found a new home in the garbage. I don't know why I ever kept those "just in case" colors. Not sure what situation would ever provoke me to wear them...haha! I also sent a foundation back that I bought in December and exchanged it for a different darker color since I've been tanning. Lipsticks seem to be a big challenge here....why don't they make the tubes any smaller? I never have used up a color I really love before it was outdated.
This challenge was easy for me, just needed some incentive to do so. My clothes closet on the other hand.........Anyone know a good fashion stylist?!

Wow, is all I have to say. It's amazing how much "stuff" women will gather to look good. Everything I threw out I already knew I would never wear again, but had just not taken the time to get rid of it. You name it, it was there. Well not anymore, Thanks GGG!

Well, I was amazed at how much I had to throw away...I had no idea I had collected so much. I am now down to one eyeliner, a compact of three eye shadows and two spares for the compact. Two blush colors, a foundation, and a mascara. I threw out all the lipstick because it was old and not right for me, so that is what I will buy to replace.

This is an awesome challenge. I have several bottles of foundation - all different brands, all different shades. Probably none of them really look okay. I have several different blushes, too, also different shades of pink.

I have some eye makeup which I never wear, but I will keep the mascara because I do wear that occasionally. I will ditch most of the eye liner pencils that are pretty old.

I have done this before and cleaned out my drawers. Hopefully, this time I will try to keep them cleaned out.

So far, so good. :)

Even though I'm not in the G3 club I took this challenge. I cleaned out all the crud in the bathroom while the little ones where in the tub. I got rid of alot and feel really good.

Ido have to admit that there was one blush that I could not bring myself to get rid of because I like it so much and It is no longer available. Well the next morn my 3yo dd was playing in my make-up basket while I was getting ready for work and she dropped it in the sink and it shattered. My first thought was serves me right for not getting rid of it in the first place.

04-20-2006, 09:48 PM
I threw away various mascara type products and eye liner pencils - mostly eye makeup because I tend to not use eye makeup much - it just sits in the drawer and gets old. I really enjoyed this challenge. My bathroom drawer kind of becomes a junk drawer. So I threw out more miscellaneous stuff than makeup. There were three shoe horns in there from Famous Footwear. Plus all of the little extra buttons that come with purchasing clothes. It's a lot better now. :)

When I gave myself my Mary Kay makeover, I cleane d out my cabinet in the bathroom.... well it was really scary, I found a gental clensing lotion (MK) from When I lived in Virginia Beach (that was over 10 years ago) I dared open it and it had pretty much turned clear. I also have verious products form many other sources from dept stores to drug stores, all of it old and mostly not used, I have been doing my Mary Kay skin care for a little over a week and I have seen marked improvment, my face feels better, I feel good making the effort to wear makeup every day.... but the improvment form gettign back into a daily skin care routine is amazing.... my skin is softer and showing less an less scaling form my dry skin.....I thrw out a bunch of other old stuff.... the only thing I kept was hotle shapoos and such becuause they make a great travel size.... I also have my MK organized and accesble so I can use it every day.... I sort of gave myself a total makeover in the last month and I have gotten lots of compliments form everyone... spring is a great tiem for renewal in many ways.... :D

*omg* Ick, yuck, eeeewwww! That was my response to my makeup drawer when I pulled everything out. Even with the divider tray, powder, eye pencil shavings, blobs of mascara, etc. were every where. I had to scrub down the tray twice to get it clean. I threw out two very old eyeliner sticks, two lip liners, three powder shadows and one powder blush. I also consigned several old used eyeshadow applicators to the trash - they were stuck to the underside of my tray. No wonder my drawer's been cranky about shutting.

I feel sort of liberated, don't you? :yahooo:

Well, it took me a little while to do this, had to make sure I got all of it....
I ended up throwing out 4 tubes of mascara (open), 3 eyeshadows that I have had forever, tons of little sample lipsticks. I also dropped off at the Women's Shelter donation depot 18 different Clinique things that I never opened (mostly blush and 'Happy' scented stuff).
Most embarrasing of all, though, is a set of eyeshadows that I have had for over 15 years...with 4 of the 8 colours never used!
Thanks for helping me lighten the moving load!
Autumn
PS. How long does nailpolish last? When do I throw that out? I have a few bottles that are ATLEAST 17 years old!

I'm glad I chose this as my first challenge because even I know that using old makeup is bad for your skin...especially if you use old appliers and brushes. I got rid of three year old foundation that just didn't even look right anymore. My old, empty dried out mascaras went in the trash as well. The thing that was the hardest to part with was the crazy collection of lipsticks that I never had much chance to wear because the colors were not for me yet I carried them in my purses for over a year. I am feeling pretty good for having the guts to let go of this stuff. I'm even going to buy a new eyelash curler and throw away my old one tomorrow...I have to use it in the morning!

07-26-2006, 02:09 PM
Oh man! I did that a long time ago. I tossed a ton of old makeup...problem is I haven't gotten around to replacing them all. :( (BTW...you know you really need a pout smilie. :D ) I tossed multiple shades of eyeshadows, blushes, foundations, mascara and enough lipsticks to adequately paint the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

But that happened about 9 months ago before we moved.

I'm down to one eyeshadow, one blush (wait, that's gone, I dropped it and it shattered) okay...NO blush, 2 eyeliners (1 black, 1 charcoal) and mascara. I have a lipliner in my purse that I've been meaning to toss and no more lipsticks (unless you want to include a blistex stick.) I have concealer and liquid foundation as well as pressed powder.

That's it. Guess I should go shopping for more.

Tough, but NECESSARY challenge. I'm glad we have 7 days to complete this one...every day since I've started I've been trying to throw at least 3 things out. Much like many others, I have drawers full of STUFF, mostly full or almost empty -- and I've saved it, why?!?!?

Today I threw away 2 old mascara(s) and a tube of lip gloss that I've had for probably 3 years. *blech*

:hi5: to everyone that's done or is doing this challenge!

Count me in!! I cleaned this weekend to get ready for my annual Xmas Open House and started in the bathroom with old makeup! I always throw away mascaras every 6 weeks (whether empty or not) and then rotate my eye shadows, lipsticks, etc. by season. I just switched over to FALL this weekend and pitched all the "Summer" items! Great challenge!!:-)

I hate throwing away stuff, but know it is necessary. I'm sure in need of this challenge. Old make up and beauty products can be more damageable than helpful. I don't wear that much make up, but I still have lots! My more difficults moments will be throwing away old bath and body stuff I have. Wow, my bathroom will be decluttered by the time I'm done. Today, I'm starting on a small drawer. Good luck all!

Great idea. Its hard to part with favorite eyeshadows and lipsticks but if they are old, its not a good idea to keep them. Now to schedule a cleanout. I think I have old shampoos under the sink too!

I threw away a lot of old mascara and finger nail polish, down to the nub eyeliners, only one thing of shadow since I rarely use eye shadow nor lipstick. i had a tube of an awful orange color lipstick I once bought from Avon--it looked good on the model but not on me! lol
Then I washed out the makeup drawer which was nasty underneath it all.
Thanks for the nudge, I wouldn't have thought to do this otherwise.

I only have foundation, black eyeliner, black eyeshadow, mascara, and blush, no duplicates, does that mean I'm done?

will i finally realized i had to do this becuase my foundation was to light for my skin tone, so i figured what the heck time to replace it all, man i had stuff that i dont even like, crazy how sometimes that lipstick looks great in the store but get it home, and yuk! so i bought some new stuff, forgot how expensive it is, but got some cool stuff none the less, now its on to my medicine cabinet and closets.

I simply CANNOT believe this challenge is here (by-the-way, "challenge" is spelled incorrectly in some of the links on the Challenge page. Just fyi).

I just had surgery two weeks ago and Prior to surgery, I went into a HUGE throw away and organize phase. Guess what? All I have left is right in my room in a huge drawer!

I can take this day by day and be just as ruthless as I want to be!

Is there a "Basement Challenge," I wonder? LOL

Why did I keep almost all empty, but nothing I would REALLY use containers of foundation?

I honestly think that I thought that if I were in a pinch and desperate (for some reason?), I could dig in that drawer and use it?

Maybe?

I feel like a wierdo now!

TOSSED!

Hotel lotions (I travel a lot).... I kept the ones I would ACTUALLY use in my purse, put them in a zip-lock bag, and stored them. I really love how the counter under my sink looks now. I am hoping the organization there will stick.

Today I dug deeply into that drawer and found... eye shadow that I *think* may have been from my high school days.

HOW has it lasted this long? I have lived in no less than 6 states and out of the country since then. I have moved just about an average of every 2 years since high school. I don't even know if I could really find my hs diploma, but here's eye shadow that had managed to stick around and end up in a make-up drawer in my vanity in my bedroom! It was not in some random *old make-up box.* It was right here!

This has been so crazy. I did find some things that aren't too old that I forgot about and would like to use again. Ibought them just a few months ago and they are still in the packages. Because I was so ill, I just ended up tossing them in the drawer and forgetting about make-up in general. It was kind of cool to run across them and remember.

Just a little more to do, but I need to sit down and read the paper and drink my coffee calmly - another new challenge of my own... to be "in the moment."

I'm really having fun on this site and I see that one of my referrals is here - but I don't know who it is yet! I am hoping she sends me an email to let me know!

I also love reading your threads about the challenge and how you are progressing. It has been fun to know thatothers are doing this, too!

I am so happy that I decided to take this challenge. It's amazing how long I have some of my makeup. The labels are worn off on some of them so I didn't even have an expiration date.

Well, so far I have thrown out 4 eyeshadow cremes and a tube of liquid makeup. The liquid makeup I never used and the 4 eyeshadows I was still using, but shouldn't have been. I've become quite a hoarder. I never used to keep things this long, but I also never bought as much when I was in my 20's & 30's.

Thank you for starting me on this road to a cleaner and safer make-up collection. It took a challege to get me started, but I am only just starting. I have so much more to sort through. :bliss:

I just threw out a TON of old stuff. Some I opened & used only a few times.. you know when you're in the store it looks good but then at home the color or something just looks 'off'? (sigh) I guess that's what happens when you start experimenting....

Oh, I have so needed to do this for such a long time!! I guess I'll just gather all my "junk" and start tossing. I have it everywhere! Baskets, shoe boxes, drawers...etc. These little challenges really get me going--even if it is only a small thing I feel as though I have completed something for the day. Well, here I go...

Job finished!! Yay! I couldn't believe how much make up I had to get rid of. I even got rid of some old perfumes. I have needed to do this for such a long time. Glad its over. At first, I was keeping too many. Then after about the third box, I decided to toss it all! lol What a relief. Kind of funny too, some really funky colors that made me think, hhmm....what was i thinking??

I was amazed how much old makeup I had, some must have been more than 10 years old...scary... I don't really wear much makeup so I forget what I have and then buy more, or like my clinque stuff I didn't use often so here it is years later still sitting around. So I got myself new foundation, mascara, eyliner and shadows... I don't need lipstick, I never wear it.

Thanks for the challenge!

What a great challenge! So, I decided to spend 1/2 hr each day for the week to clearing the make-up stashes. I had a box of old make-up and bath products that I packed up not one, but two  moves ago. The whole box went into the trash (being sure to recycle what I could!) I had every shade of eye shadow available. Some of it was so old, the color is back in style! On to day two and the wonders in store lurking behind the cabinet door... :D

I just signed up for this challenge. I don't have much make up but my youngest DD left a bunch of her makeup and she has been gone a year. So all of her make up is going, going, gone! I have a little bit but i don't wear it unless I am sick and have to go to work.

Did you know if you buy your make up at Rite Aid and (save the reciept) if you don't lie the way it looks when you get home and try it. That you can bring it back for a full refund-that's why you save the reciept! Company policy. The CEO is a woman who was tired of full of drawers of make up she couldn't wear and couldn't return.

Well I really don't want to do this challenge b/c I hate throwing away any of my makeup, especially the ones I got from my mom who passed away in 2006.

Does makeup go bad? What happens if you wear old makeup?

Ok, well this hopefully will be a good challenge for me. I hope that I can do this one!

Ok - I am off to the bathroom to see what I can throw away first...

Well I found an old bottle of foundation that I have had for years - thinking that I would use it someday... you know how it goes... packrat thingy!

I actually threw it away... I don't know how I will do when it comes to my mom's makeup but we will see how it goes!

I've heard make up does go bad and using old makeup can cause problems like infections. How true or how common this is, I don't know.

Personally I can see how germs and bacteria from your skin can get into the product as you use it because you are going back and forth between the container and your skin to get "just the right amount" applied.

You may want to get rid of "your" old stuff and keep the stuff your mom gave you for the memory...just don't use it.

Take care

Thanks ~ ok I don't feel so bad about throwing away the old makeup now. And thanks for saying to keep my mom's makeup for memory - - that's a good idea.

Now I won't have such a hard time with this challenge...

Well this is the second day of my makeup challenge...
Now that "jcme" replied I didn't have such a hard time throwing away a bunch of mascara that is old.

I am starting to feel better getting rid of some of the makeup that I keep seeing just laying around. I just don't like tossing stuff that I spent so much money on.

It's ok today to throw away ~ ~ ~

Michele :p

I have a question... can you donate makeup to someone who can't afford it? I have a lot of eye shadows that I will not use and would love to give to the less fortunate.

Ok today was a good throwing it away day. I threw away all of the makeup I had in my storage room – I knew I had packed some away in storage so today I went threw the boxes and found all of it and tossed it. What a good feeling to actually let go of stuff that I do not need. There was eye shadows, mascaras, lipsticks and eyeliners. I thought I would never get rid of these. I have probably had them for 5-10 years. I may even start to go threw other things besides makeup and start throwing that away too. Yippie!!! :D

Day Four of throw it away! This morning (insomnia – 3:00 am  ) I started to go threw my stuff in my office/girly room. I found more lipstick, eye shadows and applicators. I was reading threw some of the throw it away makeup challenge postings and saw that makeup goes bad after 3 months – WOW. I have been using old foundation and mascara. I really don’t wear a lot of makeup anymore (3-4 years) and I had a lot of makeup. There is one lipstick that I will keep that I got from a bachalorette party and it is the shape of a :censor: so that one I am keeping –I don’t use it anyways b/c of the shapely figure it has ha ha ha. Does fingernail polish count? I have a big tub of that – at least 50 different colors. I still have 3 other places to go threw… I want to get my amount of makeup down to just what I use these days and that is not much.

Would donating be the same as throwing it away and would it count for the challenge?

Personally, I would not give makeup away, unless it is still in the original packaging and not very old. Would not be sanitary to give away opened makeup or make up that has been sitting around for long time.

I agree with the time factor. Usually you wil find the shelf life of make up AND skincare shown on the packaging. This date relates to UNOPENED product. Once opened, the product should used within 6mths for make up and 12/24 mths for skincare (different dates depending on product and brand of skincare). So the rule to follow is: over 1 yr old and not open - use it now or give it away. If opened and over 1yr old (or since you last used it), sling it girl!!!

Hope that sheds a little more light on the subject for all GGG girlies.

I am throwing away the last of my old & unused makeup today. I do feel better with it all gone. The only thing that bothers me is that I could have donated some of the stuff that was not opened to the poor. I agree with the opened makeup but as for the unused items the poor would be more than happy to have that stuff. Oh well from what you girls said I am better off throwing it away.

Today was the hardest day of the throwaway challenge. I have thrown away all of my mothers makeup, fingernail polish, and other little goodies that she had. I did save one of each that I knew she used and/or liked very much – the ones that reminded me of her. Today is the last day of my challenge. I really like this challenge but like I said throwing away my mom’s stuff was very hard. I know that this sounds strange but knowing the stuff is still in the garbage and I thought that I could be tempted to go and get my mom’s stuff back so I had my hubby take that hose to the stuff and burry it to the bottom. I know that I will think of it until the next garbage day and then I may be a bit sad that my mom's stuff is gone and I was the one who tossed it. . .

I got rid of old nail polish, facial moisturizer products, old blushes and lipsticks.

The nail polish bottles were either dried up or the product was seriously separating.

The facial moisturizer products was stuff I either bought myself or got from a friend, to try. None of them worked for me. Some of them caused blemishes or rashes. (I have sensitive skin.)

The blushes were old and cracked. I had stashed them in a bottom drawer... and wasn't using them, but had not yet broken down to get rid of them.

I'm a lipstick maniac. I have waaaaaaaaaay too many lipstick. Some of the colors actually looked nicer in the tube than on my lips.

First day of my challenge and I have thrown away 7 lipglosses; 3 ancient lipsalves; 1 ancient lipliner and a lipstain that's too messy to use; 3 wrong colour lipsticks and 4 used up ones; 1 eye pencil that's a half inch stub in a colour I already have three times; 2 eyeshadows that are 16 YEARS OLD (I know because I bought them on holiday and haven't used them since) and 3 that are the wrong colour; 2 blushers that are the wrong colour; 1 concealer so old that I don't remember buying it and finally, 1 lash separating mascara that was a waste of time, 1 that smells funny and TEN dried up mascaras! I can't believe I was hoarding so much junk!! What have I learned? That I must never buy another lipgloss (they just don't work for me) and if I don't like a mascara I should just bin it. Now I'm looking forward to using the stuff that was buried beneath the junk before I have another cull in a few days. Nail varnish is next!
