I thought it would be fun to start a thread on Dogs for all of us dog lovers!
I have 2 furbabies. Hallie is a 4 year old Black Lab/Golden Retriever mix and Fischer is a 2 1/2 year old Jack Russell Terrier (I have pics in my profile). They are both spoiled rotten and the loves of my hubby and I's lives!
Now...on that note...I have a strange behavior I want to bring up and get your advise/opinion on....
Fischer (the Jack Russell Terrier) has not only a licking obsession, but now has developed the most strange behavior I have ever seen! When Hallie gets close to him, he starts nibbling her all over her body. The nibbling action is like when they itch themselves with their teeth. His sister doesn't mind it all...in fact I think it feels good to her, but I'm so curious as to what the behavior can mean?
Has anyone ever seen or heard of this?

You KNOW I have dogs... or dogs have me! Over the last 20 years our hearts have been owned by eight goldens and we currently have two... Augusta and Mulligan (10 year old brother and sister). Hopefully we will soon have two more (who we have pre-named them Divot and Bunker).
I don't know exactly what to think about the nibbling, but I would almost bet he is that he is grooming her and he wants to be sure that his sister smells like him. I am curious to see what other replies you get on this.
Don't our furbabies make our lives rich? I know I would be lost without mine!

Spasmo, the avatar is a hoot. Makes me laugh!
My wiener dog has become a bread thief. She manages to bounce higher and higher in the kitchen and if the loaf is anywhere near the edge, she drags it outside, buries it and will guard the doggy dog from her sister's thieving ways....
If I hadn't seen the wiener bouncing like she did, getting higher and higher, I wouldn't have believed it.
My non-wiener (but thinks she is) is passive and follows alpha wiener around from blanket to blanket. The non-wiener, Thelma Lou, puts her nose on Dora's head and leaves it there for a while, sniffing deeply. She will also smell her mouth. I think she is trying to figure out if Dora got some extra food she didn't know about.

Thanks Kathy! I make family calendars featuring our dogs and a few years ago they decided that I sould "digitally decorate them" instead of decorating them "in person". They have been in several masterpieces and movie posters... poor things have a crazy Mother.
Reading your post makes me think about the Disney movie The Ugly Dachshund. That is a great old movie. I would LOVE to see a dachshund jump! And I can relate to having a bread theif as our Augusta is quite the thief herself. She stole the turkey carcass five years in a row. We have to keep a close eye on that girl... she has the quickest paw in Bastrop!

I had two pomeranians (both have passed away).
They were one year apart in age, and did not venture far from each other. If I had to put them in a kennel for any reason they had to share a room. I tried once even putting them next to each other and it did not work.
My male dog was the oldest and weighed about 10-12 lbs, he doted on the female dog who weighed about 3 lbs. He often made sure she would eat by bringing her food. He would stick with her if they were outside. He always washed her face, when they would be playing on the floor he would always take the time to lick her face and ears. When he would be laying down by himself she would go up and put her face next to him and he would start licking her face.
When she was close to her time he stayed right next to her. He knew like we did that she was on her way. It did take him about a year to come out of his depression and looking for her. When it was his time to go (about 18 months later), he started acting the same as she did, so again we knew it was his time.
She passed on at the age of 11 and he passed on at the age of 13.5.

I am the proud dogmom of a 110 pound, 7 year old (thinks she's human) Rotti. She is also afraid of the dark and walks around the house with a Winnie the Pooh fleece blanket. She whines if I turn out the lights at night and the nightlight isn't on. She HATES being left alone in the house if she isn't LOCKED into her crate.
She has been brought up in the house, with the family and if you were to put her out in the yard, after she ate all the bunny poop, she wouldn't know what to do with herself so she will whine at the door until you let her in (summer or winter).
She won't get up on the bed or couch if her blanket isn't there. And if company comes over and someone sits on her blanket...She stands there and stares at them until I pull her blanket off. Then she will take her blanket to her kennel.
Yes, she is a spoiled WELL TRAINED dog.
