Keep that Scale in Control for the Holidays

Here are ten tips to help keep your holidays a time for celebration of good things instead of groaning a few weeks later when you can no longer fit into your jeans.

Its important to plan ahead!

1. Determine to be the designated driver. Save your friends and your calorie intake at the same time.

2. At a buffet party, limit the number of items you put on your plate. Set the limit and stick with it. Choose your foods carefully.

3. Enjoy the goodies but do not make a meal of it. A few tastes of fudge provides the satisfaction without the hundreds of calories and fat grams found in plateful.

4. At parties, keep your hands on something else besides a food plate. Take along your camera and be the party-photo-taker instead. Its hard to balance a plate of food while managing a camera.

5. Give party leftovers away. Take them to your office and hand them out. Taking them home is a big temptation you can do without.

6. Take along a veggie or fruit tray if you are headed to a potluck party.

7. Spend some energy giving to your community through volunteer programs. Toys for Tots, your local food bank, could all use your help while you feed your soul.

8. Park further away from your shopping destination and walk. Deliver cards and healthy goodies to your neighbors.

9. Refuse food and drinks if you don't want them. Learn to say "no" to well-meaning friends and family.

10. Take your weight-loss resolution on a trial run. Start before the holidays instead of waiting until January 1.
