Spiritual Health

Having a checkup for your health is essential to measuring your progress and maintaining your life's balance. A proper diet, dental, vision, hearing, and cardiac health are those checkups that tell your physician how you are doing physically. But what about your spiritual health? The same checkups can apply!

You are what you eat.

If a person were to eat only junk food day after day, their physical health would not add up to top notch. Healthy food leads to a healthy body just as healthy spiritual food leads to a healthy spiritual life. Avoid the kind of mental input that is spiritually harmful. The healthiest of all is the milk of God's Word. (I Peter 2:2)

Watch your mouth

Dental problems are avoided by the proper hygenine. Clean and wholesome speech avoids spiritual decay. If words of destruction are the first things out of our mouth, we should examine what is in our heart. (James 3:6;Eph.4:29)

Check your vision and hearing

We have many choices in life. Turn off the TV or radio if the images or the sounds are not encouraging to our spiritual health. Look only at what keeps you on the path of righteousness (Prov. 4:25). Refuse to listen to gossip and evil speaking, but give attention to wise counsel (Prov.4:1,10).

Control stress

Anger and negative energy zaps life from our bones. Take control of your life. Learn when you need a break. Learn when you need to take a step back and spend time alone. Learn when to say no. Learn to lean on the Lord and be patient (Eph. 4:26; Prov. 3:5,6 ; James 5:7,10).

Strenthen your heart

Our heart is strengthened when we think on the things that are pure, honorable and true. Do your part to keep your heart strong and pure (Prov. 4:23; 1 Tim.1:5). Strengthen it daily with spiritual aerobic exercise by adding God's word to your daily routine.

You will affect your spiritual health daily by the choices you make. Consider the needs of your spiritual life and make those necessary choices to strengthen your spiritual life.
