"Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise -- meditate on these things." (Philippians 4:8)
Garbage in, Garbage Out
Have you stopped to consider the things you fill up your mind? In today's culture we could have a media barrage assaulting our brain during every waking moment. The television in the living room, the radio in the car, the books on our shelves, the magazines in the doctor's office, the internet on the computer.
We have unlimited media exposure that sends messages into our brain for our mind to process.
If we fill our minds with things that are scary, gross, untrue, and seductive, these things shape our thoughts, our values, our choices.
Imagine the stress and discomfort we are caused by inputting into our brains the stuff that is icky. Seductive and materialist thoughts cause us to be discontent with our lives, provokes jealousy and causes frustration. Scary thoughts frighten us and cause us despair.
Good stuff in, Good stuff out
But, if we do as suggested in Philippians 4:8, and fill our mind with things that are pure, true, noble, good reports and things praiseworthy, we will find the best nouishment for our brains.
Imagine the comfort of thinking on truth and things that are pure. We are comforted by the thought of God as our shepherd, our living water and bread of life. We are strengthened by the thought of God as our ruler and king. We are satisfied and contented knowing that no matter our circumstance in life, God knows where we are and loves us.
Be of good cheer, think on things that are good
Right thinking is key to contentment and satisfaction with our life. Dwelling on the right things takes initiative and effort. Take the necessary steps to guard your mind and think on the things that good.
Girls, get going!
