"The Lord is my Shepherd,
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul..."
Is your life hectic and running in all different directions? Do you jump in your car to head to another meeting and pause before turning on the engine and realize this is the only time of quiet you get all day?
Is your soul aching for quiet refreshment?
These comforting words from Psalm 23 reminds us that there is refreshment available to us.
The Lord is my Shepherd
When we understand we are sheep, in need of a shepherd, it helps to put our life in perspective. We need a shepherd to guide our lives. We need a shepherd to remind us to rest and be comforted.
I shall not want
When we realize God as the shepherd in our life, our needs are fulfilled by Him. Not that we won't have need of anything in our life, but with God as our shepherd, He fulfills those needs. We can trust and depend on Him to know those needs.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures
Resting from our life doesn't require a vacation to an exotic land. It doesn't require a plane ticket or a car ride. Sheep live near and within the green pastures. Look around you. Don't forget to rest in the midst of your green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters
Sheep are afraid of loud, noisy, fast flowing streams. They are stirred to restlessness. God's provision of still waters has a soothing effect and calms the sheep. For us, the fast waters do not provide a calming effect that God wants to provide for us. He will lead you beside still water to comfort you.
He restores my soul.
God is the shepherd who refreshes the souls of His people with His gentle touch and comforting words.
Are you allowing The Shepherd to comfort you? Are you taking time away from the busyness of your day to lay down in green pastures and listen to His words of comfort by reading His words in The Bible?
The only place for true refreshment, true comfort and true soul restoring comes from the Shepherd.
