Each year on the second day of February, we turn on the news to watch with hopeful anticipation at the musings of a groundhog. We watch as the groundhog is brought out into the light, woken up from hibernation, to look for his shadow. As the groundhog tradition goes, if he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, spring is soon to arrive.
Its a grand tradition. Its fun. And while we may be disappointed that yet again, the groundhog saw his shadow and spring is yet six weeks away, it WILL arrive!
We can plan on it. Bet on it. Spring will arrive!
Every year we enjoy the tulips' first banners of the impending arrival of spring. Each year we are encouraged by the budding trees, the blossoms of pear trees, the return of birds chirping.
We take pleasure in the warming of the sun and the lengthening of our days. We find our days spent without our heavy coats and winter sweaters. We find our furnaces taking a break.
Be encouraged! Spring has always arrived...every year. Its a time of hope in the middle of winter.
Spring: A promise of new and renewed life. Its coming!
With or without the groundhog.
