Ten Clothing Tips to Slim Down

Most women want to look slimmer in their clothes no matter their size. Wearing clothes that are appropriate for the shape of your body can make you look as much as 10 pounds slimmer according to the gals from "What Not To Wear".

Its important not to create a look that makes us appear larger or out-of–proportion. Line and design is much more that wearing horizontal stripes, it is how the lines in the garment are formed, the shape and proportion of garments and how they are used to create the best look and how the lines of the body interact with the lines in clothes.

We are all built with our weight distributed in different places, which makes us unique. The sad fact is, most manufacturers are not concerned about how clothes look on the average female but how it looks on models. They create fashion looks for the ideal body type.

Most women do not have this ideal shape and either wear inappropriate styles or hide their shape with clothing that is much too large.

Here are some general guidelines that will create a slimming look.

Tips to Look Slimmer:

1. Avoid clothing made with shiny fabrics, bright huge patterns and wild colors.

2. Say "no" to frills or extra material that adds bulk. Don’t wear bulky sweaters, or sweatshirts.

3. Wear darker hose when wearing a skirt or dress. Say "no" to patterned hose/tights.

4. Don’t wear oversized, shapeless clothing to hide bulges. These make you appear larger instead.

5. Say "no" to "mom" jeans with "peg-legs" from the 1980's. These kind of pant bottoms only accentuate the top of the pants, making your bottom appear larger.

6. Wear slack/jeans with a wider leg bottom to make your silhouette longer.

7. Wear undergarments that have good support

8. Select colors that match top to bottom or are similar in darkness. Pop a favorite color from underneath that gray jacket in your blouse.

9. Select blouses and jackets that are fitting and have style lines that create a waistline.

10. Avoid horizontal stripes. Thin vertical lines will give a slimming look.
