Celebrity women appear beautiful but with the right lighting, hairstyle, and make-up, any gal can look as attractive as a Hollywood star. Make-up artists use skill to enhance natural beauty and to hide flaws. Their professional tricks can help you to bring out the best and look picture perfect too.
Basics of Beauty
Foundation, as the name implies, is the first step toward a beautiful face. Since foundation comes in many shades and colors, it’s important to choose the right foundation to make skin tone attractive. Foundation make-up smoothes skin texture, gives color, and provides a base for other cosmetic products. The right foundation will be all but invisible between the cheeks and jaw line. If a foundation color doesn’t blend so well it goes unnoticed, opt for a lighter shade. Always apply foundation and all cosmetics in good lighting with light directly on the face. Invest in a quality lighted make-up mirror or good bathroom lighting.
One trick is to emphasize three facial features: eyes, cheekbones, and lips. To brighten and highlight eyes, apply a darker color to the lower eye lid then trace a V in the outer corner of each eye with eye liner. Use a lighter shade below the brow bone to emphasize the eye. For smoky, sexy eyes like some of the stars, fill in the upper lid with soft black or charcoal eye pencil and use black mascara on eyelashes. Despite color charts designed to coordinate shades with natural coloring, there are no right or wrong eye colors. Go with what captures the desired look.
Make lips kiss ready by tracing the outline of the mouth with lip pencil and draw the line above the mount of Cupid (the natural bow on the upper lip). Fill in with a favorite lipstick shade for full, pouting lips. To make lips seem even fuller or to plump up thin lips, apply a drop of clear, beige, or gold lip gloss in the center of the upper lip. A topcoat of shiny lip-gloss also accentuates lips to the max. The most flattering lip color is the shade that looks best when no other cosmetics are worn so experiment to find the right shade.
Cheekbones define the face. To bring out cheekbones and emphasize facial structure, powder cheeks then suck in cheeks. Apply a bronzer in the hollows of both cheeks and apply blush on the apples of the cheeks. Dust with a light powder to seal. To make the face appear thinner, apply a lighter shade of base foundation between the cheek and jaw line and blend well with the other shade.
Basic Beauty Styles: Classic, Glamorous, Edgy
Styles of various Hollywood personalities can be divided into three categories: classic, edgy or avant-garde and glamorous. Julia Roberts, with her wholesome girl-next-door look, typifies the classic style of cosmetics. If classic is the look of choice, choose natural shades with subtle definitions. Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson flaunt a glamorous style and to emulate it, choose rich colors that offer high definition of features. Glamorous styles suit someone who prefers to never be seen without make-up.
Sienna Miller is an example of edgy or avant-garde make-up style. Edgy styles follow the newest, hottest trends almost before the trend becomes popular. Edgy uses bright colors and sparkle to draw attention and even to shock.
Determining a basic style can help in the selection of cosmetic products and shades. Basic products that should be part of any woman’s make-up kit include:
- A good moisturizer
- Foundation and concealer stick (to hide blemishes)
- Powder
- Eye make-up products including shadow, mascara, liner, and a brow shaper.
- Blush and bronzer
- Lipstick in a shade that works well with natural skin tone and complexion.
- Lip gloss in clear, crystal, gold, or other light shade
Add to the basic list with whatever cosmetic products are necessary for an individual beauty regimen. Remember to keep fresh products and to discard products after a reasonable time.
Whether the look is classic, glamorous, or edgy, experiment to fit the style that reflects personality. Visit the web sites of major cosmetic manufacturers like Max Factor and Cover Girl for tips on applying make-up. To help determine what looks the best, have a makeover at a department store cosmetics counter. Cosmetics clerks can provide insight and information about various products and allow customers to sample before purchase.
Remember that most stars without make-up look ordinary and that anyone can enhance their natural beauty with the right cosmetics to be beautiful!
