Weight Watchers Basics

For 40 years Weight Watchers has provided a weight loss plan and over the years this plan has been refined, tweaked and created in such a way that success is possible if you have a weight loss goal. With support from local groups (and now online support) Weight Watchers uses a simple points system that allows you to eat foods based on your daily point allowance. For an added bonus, you can "win" extra daily points by exercising.

Weight Watchers is not a fad diet or a quick weight loss scheme. Basically, WW encourages exercise with healthy eating habits to promote weight loss. And once the weight loss goal is achieved, the habits attained during the Weight Watchers program helps maintain the goal weight.

With the Weight Watchers Flex plan, eat anything, staying within your daily point allowance. Weight Watchers online provides support from local meetings or through online support etools. Given the availability of Weight Watchers online, the website provides recipes, menu ideas, calorie tracking, progress tracking, inspiration and products to help with weight loss goals.

A study published in the April 2003 Journal of the American Medical Association found that dieters randomly assigned to the structured Weight Watchers program lost three times as much weight as those who used their own do-it-yourself approach. Though supported by Weight Watchers, the two-year study was conducted at six different independent research centers around the country. In addition, a company tracking study finds that dieters who attend meetings for 10 weeks lose an average of 11 pounds.

Many consider Weight Watchers to be the best weight loss plan on the block. GirlsGetGoing.com recommends Weight Watchers as it is a weight loss plan with realistic expectations and goals.
