Spring is just around the corner and here is a sure way to enjoy the springtime blooms early. Plant an indoor window garden. Using a container, either new or found, adding a few plants already growing well and planting seeds will provide you with the hope of spring while winter plays itself out.
Gather items:
- Container for window (can be a pot, a planter box, a planter. Make sure it can sit in your windowsill and be large enough for several plants)
- dirt (get dirt from the store which contains nutrients, mulch)
- seeds for flowering plants
- plants such as ivy, kalanchoe, clyclamen or other indoor plants that do well inside.
- newspaper
- small rocks (for bottom of planter, to help with drainage)
1. Lay paper on table to catch the mess.
2. Put rocks into container to cover the bottom of planter, about 1-3 inches.
3. If you are using plants from a nursery, remove the plants from the plastic pot and position into planter. Add dirt around the plants.
4. Add seeds in area around the plants. Follow the planting depth on the seed package.
5. You will have an instant garden while you watch the seed sprout and fill in over the next few weeks.
6. Water thoroughly. Continue to water every few days watching to make sure the dirt does not dry out.
7. Enjoy your indoor blooms!
