Kate
Kate has a bachelor's degree from an Oklahoma university in advertising
and business. She has been online creating websites since 1995 where her
first experience building a website was through the beginner's tutorials
on Geocities. Having worked in product development for a popular hair
care company she now works in marketing for a Fortune 500 company who happens to make a popular soft drink and salty snacks.
Kate enjoys working out and fixing healthy food with her gazillion appliances.
Kathy
Kathy has a degree in education and spent 15 years as a classroom teacher
within public schools in Texas. She has been online since 1995 when her
school district assigned a computer to every teacher and sent them home
over the summer holidays instructed to "learn the computer". Sitting side
by side with Kate during much of that first summer, she learned to build
website pages. Because of her family's medical history, Kathy had
surgery in 1998 which led to the creation and launch of HysterSisters.com
which is the largest hysterectomy support website online with over 125,000 members.
The Background Story of GGG
During the summer of 2005, Kate and Kathy committed to walking every
evening on a quest to get in better shape. Chatting as they walked,
the idea of challenging women online to goals towards better health
was brainstormed over and over throughout the summer. First with the
notion of fitness challenges, the categories soon expanded to inspire
challenges and rewards for every area of a woman's life. Of course the
idea grew to wrap this challenge activity around the wonderful aspect of a
community online complete with discussion forums and a bloggers area.
The website plan for GGG grew bigger with each walking day.Contacting the web-developer who has worked with Kathy on her other websites,
Logician began the work of coding the project around the software vBulletin.
Nicholas, the graphic designer, was available to begin work on the badges
and the lovely, hip, groovy interface.
And so, while the walking continued, the website creation began in the fall of 2005.
By winter of 2006, GGG progressed, complete with 24 category challenges and a few
special admin challenges. The excitement grew daily as the articles were
gathered, the pages created and the date of launch approached.
The rest, as they say, is history.
And the added bonus is the team of Kate and Kathy is still working out and getting in shape!
